Channeling Oaxaca's Rooftops

Guests ascend a staircase from the central courtyard to Serena, an open-air rooftop restaurant and bar that channels the enchanting rooftop and patio restaurants of Oaxaca and Mexico City. Located on a vibrant, lushly planted terrace, Serena has a laid-back yet sophisticated vibe that's like none other in Miami. Lounge and table seating — plus an expansive menu of shareable classic dishes combined with a modern interpretation of traditional Latin and Mexican cuisine — creates an inviting atmosphere for sunset cocktails and nibbles, leisurely lunches and dinners, or buzzy brunches accompanied by live music.

Inspired by the brightly hued works of the great Modernist architect Luis Barragán, Serena's garden-like outdoor dining area is a vibrant mosaic of pink, orange, coral, and blue, limewashed for added depth and warmth and offset by terracotta and white stone floors in an ombré pattern. Diners can choose among the fun and eclectic arrangements of plush sofas, overstuffed banquettes, swinging barstools, cushioned wrought-iron chairs, and ceramic-tile tabletops — all surrounded by native Mexican flowering plants set under a domed cast iron canopy that's strung with twinkling lights and fragrant bougainvillea. Reminiscent of the traditional markets of Michoacán, Tepoztlán, and other Mexican locales, the space includes an outdoor kitchen where freshly ground cornmeal is cooked to order on a comal.
The greenhouse-like bar has glass garage doors that open to the warm beach breezes. Inside, the lounge has blue-painted beam ceilings and mosaic tiles reminiscent of an antique fountain. Chilled-out tunes emanate from the semicircular DJ booth composed of breezeway blocks, stationed beneath a purple-toned wall with a neon sign reading "LA ULTIMA Y NOS VAMOS" ("Last one and we're leaving").

Poolside Brunches, Lunches & Sunset Dinners

Ceviches, salads, burgers, quesadillas, and tostadas are all ideal for casual sunset cocktails, poolside lunches or dinners, or buzzy brunches overlooking South Beach. As the first and only restaurant in Miami to make its own nixtamal (alkaline-soaked cornmeal) and grind it into blue and yellow masa, Serena offers the city's best-tasting tortillas, served with a choice of toppings: spicy ground chorizo, roasted poblano peppers, charcoal-grilled Gulf shrimp, and more. 

Creative Cocktails by Christian Rubio

Drinks include a list of wines, beers, and creative cocktails devised by the acclaimed mixologist Christian Rubio. For something sweet, Paletas, colorful Mexican-style popsicles made with fresh fruit and cream, are perfect on a sunny day, with or without a tequila cocktail.
